I can recommend the walk along Hadrians Wall, especially the three day trek between the Newcastle to Hexham. Built as a result of the Bonny Prince Charlie’s attempt to take back the English Throne in 1745/6. The General leading the English Army up to Scotland realised that the Scots could bypass him on the West Coast so as soon as they had slaughtered the Scots at Culloden they used much of the stone from the Wall to create and East-West Road.
If you want the wind behind your back and you’re walking in an easterly direction (Brighton to Eastbourne), surely it’s a westerly wind you’re seeking?
With all the debilitating drugs I now have to take in order to deal with prostate cancer, the walk is now beyond me, although I enjoyed living it vicariously in your ever delightful text! It’s quite a pleasant sail though, albeit preferable the other way around - into the sunset. The relatively pleaaant marina at Eastbourne is worth choosing when traversing the south coast, and then although Brighton Marina offers a safe, if somewhat stark haven. It’s as much “Brighton” as Stanstead is “London”!.

Ditto highly recommended with early med. history close by to boot - Seahouses to Bamburgh Castle, Northumbria. (Latter, best view in Britain?)
Didn’t detract from the usual well-written and interesting article. I was just being ridiculously nerdy

Would you believe me if I told you I double-checked this prior to sending and STILL got it wrong?
Coastlines to take
OK I’m stealing with without attribution.

Wow! I am proud of myself when doing 10 miles in an afternoon along the South West Coast Path in South Devon
